EnergyLab Wheels with KAZAK Group

KAZAK Group of Companies has recently partnered with EnergyLab Sports® for the distribution rights of the EnergyLab carbon cycling wheels. KAZAK Group often works closely with Canadian four-time Olympian and Gold Medalist, Simon Whitfield, testing several of its partner brands.

EnergyLab has incorporated a symmetrical toroidal wing foil design offering superior performance and comfort. Several simple and effective design changes have created a product that is definitely going to be noticed by all riders.

· Symmetrical Toroidal designed for 23” and 25” clincher tires. The braking surface measures 25mm and then 27mm at the crest before tapering in. This maximizes aerodynamics while allowing air to flow more naturally from a side/yaw wind. Energy Lab rims offer a noticeably impressive ride for even the most demanding rider.

· Ease of changing flats with the wider designed rim system.

· Design allows for a more comfortable ride with superior performance. Weight is respectable at 1,688 grams for the VC 60 series.

· Braking Zone transfers heat build up directly into the Heat Disbursement Chamber to prevent possible overheating during excessive braking.

· Internal nipple system increases the carbon-to-spoke surface strength 152%. This is important to better disburse and distribute load weight and sudden impact force from road conditions. The new wheels will also be tested for cyclocross in the near future because of the impressive results.

· Spoke Bridge design dramatically increases spoke-to-carbon strength, support and performance when working in conjunction with the internal nipple design.

· Bladed straight-pull spokes are aerodynamic and standard on all Energy Lab road rims. An Elite Series wheelset is expected down the road which will include a titanium spoke set and other features dropping the weight another 100-180 grams overall.· For added peace of mind each wheelset will come with spare spokes – but don’t expect to use them. Providing spare spokes is a unique and smart service as even the most basic spokes can take time for a shop to order and no rider should have to wait that long.

· Includes a 6-Pawl double tooth integrated hub with 12 engagement points for better direct rider power transfer. The hub system is compatible with Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo drive trains.

Expected Suggested Retail Prices will range from $1,299 for a set of VC40 wheels, VC60 set for $1,399, VC60 & VC90 mix for $1,499 and $1,599 for a VC90 wheelset. These combinations are sure to accommodate 98% of the riders on the roads and at the events.

EnergyLab is based in Calgary, Alberta (Canada) known for having innovative engineers and demanding mountain roads, making it a natural fit for creative concepts to real ride technology development. The cycling rims are anticipating final testing at the University of Calgary wind tunnel. The decision was made to use the university’s wind tunnel because of its potential to incorporate temperature gradients, which other manufacturers normally do not factor into the equation.

Canada is known for being a humble leader in cycling innovation and EnergyLab Sports is proud to play a part with their products. They are focused on leveraging and enhancing ideas and technology to manufacture affordable performance products for the cycling industry.

“EnergyLab’s 60VC rims exceeded my expectations. They were incredibility stiff on the climbs, ensuring all the rider’s power transfers to the road. Stability and speed on the downhill was precise and the ride comfort makes for a perfect combination,” commented Simon Whitfield. The launch of the VC Series in 60C and the 90C carbon clincher rims will focus on the needs of riders that want to increase their performance and enjoyment of cycling from group rides to Fondos, sprint triathlons, to Ironman races.

Cycling is a growing healthy lifestyle choice for several reasons. Social elements of club and group rides, a solution for people looking for low impact exercise, tourism and travel opportunities to great destinations, Fondo events and fundraising rides make cycling an ideal choice. Also, for competitive driven athletes, the expansive growth of triathlon events provides amazing opportunities.

“Cycling is the new golf.”
